The University of Jaffna held its 39th General Convocation from March 19th to 22nd at the university’s indoor stadium. Presided over by Vice-Chancellor Mr. Srisatkunarajah, the event spanned 13 sessions and saw 3,920 students receive their degrees.

Among the notable recipients was Rev. Fr. Nevins Yogaraj Peiris, Director of the Minor Seminary of Our Lady of Madhu in Mannar, who was awarded a Doctorate in Christian Civilization for his research on “The Diocese of Mannar in the Context of Biblical Testimony in Christian Civilization.” Additionally, two clergymen from the Diocese of Jaffna, Rev. Fr. Edwin Naresh and Rev. Fr. Alin Karunakaran, earned Master’s degrees in Christian Studies.

A key highlight of this year’s convocation was the introduction of the Late Rev. Dr. Anton Matthias Gold Medal, awarded for excellence in Christian Civilization studies. The inaugural recipient was Miss Jenisha Samson Rodney Kishokkumar, who achieved the highest marks in the dissertation component of the 2021 Honours Degree Examination in Arts.

Other notable awards included the Fr. S.J. Emmanuel Gold Medal for Miss Bendict Jeganathan Jenitta, who secured the top position in the Master of Christian Studies Examination, and the Pulavar Amuthu Adaikkalamuthu Award for Miss Jesuthasan Jency, named the best student in the Department of Christian Civilization.

The convocation celebrated the achievements of thousands of graduates and marked another milestone in the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
