The first-year commemoration of the late Rev. Fr. Edwin Savundara, diocesan priest and founder of the English Language Campus at Punnai-neeravi, Piramanthanaru, was held on Saturday, the 13th of January at Kulamangal and Tharmapuram parishes.
Holy Mass was offered and tributes were paid at the English Language Campus at Punnai-neeravi, under the direction of the Parish Priest of Tharmapuram, Rev. Fr. Nixon Colin, and at St. Francis Xavier’s Church, Kulamangal, under the guidance of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Baskaran.
Rev. Fr. Edwin Savundara had served as a lecturer at St. Francis Xavier’s Seminary, Jaffna, for many years. In 1995, he went abroad and eventually joined the Diocese of Michigan in the United States, where he worked as a teacher of Philosophy.
It is noteworthy that, with the aim of enhancing the English proficiency of underprivileged students in the Vanni region, he established the English Language Campus, Punnai-neeravi, upon his return from the United States.
