A call for urgent collaboration between the Sri Lankan and Indian governments to address the struggles of fishermen was made during the annual pilgrimage to St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kachchativu.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Lourthu Anand, Bishop of the Sivagangai Diocese in India, urged both nations to find diplomatic solutions to the hardships faced by fishing communities on both sides of the Palk Strait.
In an exclusive interview with Marai Alai TV, Bishop Anand expressed his joy at being part of the pilgrimage. He emphasized that the primary purpose of his visit was to strengthen ties between the Tamil dioceses of Sri Lanka and India.
During his visit, Bishop Anand also met with clergy and bishops from Sri Lanka’s four Tamil dioceses, including Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of Jaffna, to discuss the ongoing struggles of fishermen.
His remarks highlight the pressing concerns of affected communities, calling for immediate action to safeguard their livelihoods and security.
