The inauguration ceremony commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Gnanapragasar took place on March 13th in Atchuveli.

The event was organized by the Jaffna Tamil Sangam, the Diocese of Jaffna, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate Congregation.

The celebration began with a vibrant cultural procession led by Rev. Fr. Jero Selvanayagam, Co-President of the Jaffna Tamil Sangam.

Starting from the Atchuveli bus stand, the procession made its way to St. Theresa’s Girls College, featuring cultural performances by students from various schools, including St. Patrick’s College Jaffna, Ilavalai St. Henry’s College, Holy Family Convent Jaffna, Holy Family Convent Ilavalai, Manipay St. Anne’s RCTM School, Atchuveli Maha Vidyalayam, Atchuveli St. Theresa Girls College, and Jaffna St. Mary’s School.

Following the procession, a formal stage event was held at the St. Theresa College auditorium. Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese, delivered a blessing address, while Mr. Sanmugathas, President of the Jaffna Tamil Sangam and former professor at the University of Jaffna, extended congratulatory remarks.

The event also featured speeches by Professor Velnambi, Head of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Jaffna, and Rev. Fr. Pilendran, a retired professor of the university.

Distinguished attendees included Rev. Fr. Jeberatnam, Vicar General of the Jaffna Diocese, Mr. Chandramoulisan Laleesan, General Secretary of the Tamil Sangam, members of the organizing associations, clergy, nuns, school principals, teachers, and members of the public.
