The 39th anniversary of the Kumudhini Massacre was held on the 15th of May at Delft Jetty.

This event commemorated the Sri Lankan Navy’s interception of the Kumudhini boat, which was voyaging from Delft to Kurikatuvaan with 64 passengers on the 15th of May 1985, 36 people, including children, women, and the elderly, were killed.

A mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Pathinather, the parish priest of Delft, at St. Francis Xavier’s Church in Delft Jetty. Following the mass, memorial events were held at the memorial hall in Jetty.

The event was organized by Mr. Vishwalingam Rudhiran, the President of the Memorial Group. Floral tributes were paid, and the book “Uppu Kadalai Urasiya Ninnaivukal” written by Pasuntheevu Rudhran in memory of the Kumudhini Massacre was released. The event concluded with the Mullivaikkal Remembrance.
