The 29th commemoration of the tragic bombing of St. Peter’s Church in Navali, Jaffna, by the Sri Lankan Air Force was held on July 9, 2024. The event, organized by  Rev. Fr. Antonythas, the parish priest of Navali, featured a memorial service and tribute ceremonies at the site of the monument.

In 1995, amidst military operations, residents of the Valikamam region sought refuge in schools and churches. During this period, the Sri Lankan Air Force bombed    St. Peter’s Church and its surrounding areas, where thousands of displaced individuals had taken shelter. The attack resulted in the deaths of over 147 people, including children and women, and injured more than 400 others.

This commemoration served as a poignant reminder of the tragedy and a tribute to those who lost their lives in the devastating attack.
